I’m facilitating two unconferences in the next six weeks, one for the Global Entrepreneurship Network NZ, and the other for Re:Shape. They’re going to be epic events. But what is an unconference?

An unconference is a dynamic, participant-driven gathering where the traditional event hierarchy is flipped. There are no pre-planned agendas, rigid keynotes, or passive audiences. Instead of sitting through formal presentations, attendees collaboratively build the schedule at the beginning of the day based on the topics they actually want to discuss, learn, or solve. An unconference operates on the principle that the collective knowledge of the attendees is greater than that of any single expert on a stage, resulting in highly interactive, peer-to-peer conversations and brainstorming sessions. If you attend, you are expected to participate, share your own knowledge and experiences, and move freely between discussions that spark your interest. The goal is to learn from each other, build coalitions, and hatch plans for further action.
